Laabiyah completes traineeship at Heritage Lincolnshire

We are so proud of our Buildings Preservation Trust trainee Laabiyah as she comes to the end of her traineeship and becomes a fully fledged employee of Heritage Lincolnshire.

On Tuesday 24th March 2020, Laabiyah officially  finished her traineeship, completed through the Historic Environment Skills programme funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.  Through the last 18 months, Laabiyah has developed her skills in Building Preservation, project management, research and report writing.

Pictures below show Laabiyah learning how to lime-wash at Mill Hill Cottage (left) and Pointing a building; the technique of repairing mortar joints between bricks or other masonry elements (right)

Heritage Lincolnshire’s Conservation Manager, Matt Bentley has overseen part of Laabiyah’s traineeship; ‘Laabiyah has exceeded all our expectations and has developed far beyond her Trainee role into an integral part of the Heritage Lincolnshire team, providing valuable support and development to a number of our projects. So much so that whilst Laabiyah will be finishing as our Building Preservation Trust Trainee, she will be continuing with us as Conservation Project coordinator from Wednesday 25th March 2020.’

Laabiyah said of her traineeship, ‘The Historic Environment Skills Traineeship has allowed me to develop my skills and gain more confidence. I have especially enjoyed the training opportunities provided and my favourites were woodcarving and a course called ‘Making Heritage Your Business’.

I have also had the opportunity to apply for Associate IHBC membership, which I am still awaiting the decision.  Last summer I attended the IHBC Annual School which was great fun, and it was great to network with people within the same field.

For me this traineeship was the best way to enter the sector and I would highly recommend it to those who want to enter a career in Heritage. I am excited for my new role at Heritage Lincolnshire and will be working on some amazing projects.’

Welcome to the team!
