Food History & Historical Cookery

Join Sadie Hirst, a Food Historian, Columnist, Public Speaker, Tutor and multi award winning artisan baker and qualified chef. She is currently studying full time for her Master’s Degree in Heritage Education at Bishop Grosseteste University. For many years Sadie has been an avid collector of recipes and cookbooks and is passionate about preserving our culinary heritage. She loves sharing her recipes with her readers through her monthly food column for The Lincolnshire Echo and other local publications and as a regular guest on BBC Radio Lincolnshire. Sadie enjoys working with many community organisations with her talks on food history, workshops and demonstrations on historical cookery.
Throughout this course you will examine cookery books as a unique form of literature, handle and discuss kitchen items from the past that represent cookery practices no longer in common use, explore herbs, spices, recipes, material culture, antiquarian cookbooks and humours, take a fascinating look at the food and drink innovators of Georgian Britain, look at food of the British Army during WW1 and on the Homefront through demonstrations, talks and discussions.
Please note: we will need to know any food allergies and intolerances prior to the course, and please bring along your favourite recipe book with you to the course!

To be eligible for this course you must be available for both sessions; this course starts on 24th March 2020 and continues on 31st March 2020. (10am - 4pm each day)

Tea, coffee & biscuits provided.
Booking is essential. For an enrolment form please email htladmin@heritagelincolnshire.org or telephone 01529 461499. If you are a member of Heritage Lincolnshire you will be eligible for a discounted rate of £36.
This lifelong learning course is part of the Grow programme organised by the Lincolnshire County Council Community Learning service. We aim to attract new learners and courses are open to all aged 19 and over on 31 August 2019.
