The exhibition explores the stories of allied airmen who travelled from around the world to serve in the Royal Flying Corps in Lincolnshire during the First World War, and how one in fourteen of all British World War 1 aircraft were built by women in Lincoln.
There is an opportunity to use digital touch screens to explore the personal stories of the RAF personnel who lie in the war and service graves in the church yard, and take part in a War Grave Tour. A tour of the Commonwealth War Graves at Scampton Church by the former head guide at RAF Scampton Heritage Centre who will tell the personal stories of the airmen from RAF Scampton who died serving their country during World War 2.
There is also a children’s workshop. Children will learn about airmen who came from all over the Commonwealth and fought and died during World War 2. They will be allocated a ‘Fallen Friend’ to research by visiting the grave and by using digital touch screens to discover personal stories. They will find out about their aircraft, the job they did, and how they died. The activities will be sensitively debriefed. The workshop is suitable for children from KS2 years 4, 5, 6. The workshop is limited to 20 children. All Scampton Church volunteers running the workshop are DBS checked.
