|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until 12 September 2022

Part of the Lincolnshire HODs Festival 2022

Discover the history of the Black Sluice site which has had a role in land drainage since 1638 and get up close to the magnificent machines from the 1940s and 1960s which rarely survive in situ.
Black Sluice has been at the forefront of drainage technology since the 17th Century, and the pumping station is a great example of this, showcasing the cutting edge machines of the day and the leaps that were made in engineering design in just 20 years. How we manage waterways has developed and these pumps are no longer used for drainage, but that doesn’t mean their story is at an end. Find out what is next on the cards for this fantastic place.
