Online Event: Searching for the Saxons
September 11 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Join us and become an ‘armchair archaeologist’!
In September 2019 metal detectorists found objects dating to the 5th and 6th centuries on a site near to Cammeringham – finds that suggest an early Anglo-Saxon cemetery. Finding one so close to Lincoln is highly unusual and marks this as a site of national significance.
Experts will be excavating the site from 1st to 11th September. Normally we would invite the local community to come along and take part, but with social distancing measures in place, sadly we can’t do that. But you will be able to follow the progress of the dig online.
On Thursday 11th September and there will be a virtual and interactive open day at the excavation when you will see the action as it happens, and you can ask the archaeologists all your burning questions. Keep checking Facebook for details”
