Heritage Open Days

Changes and Cancellations to this Year's Festival:

Event 21a at East Firsby: Meet the Saxons Fri 13th & Sun 15th 1215-1630

Unfortunately this event is cancelled. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Event 23a at Fillingham: RAF Ingham "Home of the Polish Bomber Squadrons" Heritage Weekend: Sun 15th 1000-1600

Unfortunately this event is cancelled. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Event 36a at Holbeach: Discover the Secret Cold War Bunker at Holbeach Fri 13th & Sat 14th 1100-1515

Due to a safety issue, visitors will unfortunately be unable to access the bunker itself. The event will still be running above ground with visual aides and a small exhibition of equipment from members of the local Royal Observer Corps Association.

For everyone who books for the Festival, the site will be running a private event at a later date so that visitors have another opportunity to see inside the bunker, as soon as the safety issue is resolved.

Lincolnshire Learning, Wisdom and Folklore 2019

In 2019 we will be celebrating the festival's 25th anniversary with the theme of Lincolnshire Learning, Wisdom and Folklore.

This year’s theme seeks to celebrate learning in its widest possible sense, from skills sharing to folklore, and academic heritage to military training. For the first time ever the festival will take place over a ten day period, from Friday 13th to Sunday 22nd September 2019. This will give everyone more time to visit the special places taking part.

Your once-a-year chance to discover some of Lincolnshire's rarely seen historic treasures, with exciting experiences that bring local history and culture to life, for free!

Heritage Open Days celebrates England’s architecture and culture by allowing visitors free access to interesting properties that are not usually publicly accessible or would normally charge a fee. It also includes tours, events and activities that focus on and celebrate the local heritage of the area. Heritage Open Days is England’s biggest and most popular voluntary cultural event and is also held in a further 48 countries across Europe.

Ever since 1994 Heritage Lincolnshire has co-ordinated Heritage Open Days within the historic county. So far there have been well over a thousand events and hundreds of thousands of visitors. But we couldn't do it without our volunteers, as hundreds of people each year give their time to plan events and open up special places that matter to them.

If you have an idea for an event head to our organiser area to download an event registration form.

Our festival brochure will be launched at the Lincolnshire Show on 19th June 2019. It will also be available from libraries, tourist information centres and heritage sites across the county and from our offices in Heckington. You will be able to download a printable copy from this page when the brochure launches.

Thank You for Your Support

Lincolnshire Heritage Open Days couldn't run without the support of dozens of organisers, hundreds of helpers and volunteers, and local councils for Lincolnshire.

In particular, we would like to thank the Heritage Open Days Steering Group, who meet on a quarterly basis to lead on the festival, the Events Development Group, who go out across the country to meet and engage with local organisers, and local authorities whose financial contribution keeps the festival running year on year.

The 2019 festival runs in partnership with:
