Having unearthed new biographical evidence about Lancelot ‘ Capability Brown’ (1716-1783), our speaker Steffie will reveal the significant part Lincolnshire played in this professional polymath’s extraordinarily successful career in engineering, landscape gardening, and architecture and, centuries later, show evidence of his surviving works and influence within the county in this fascinating talk to be held at Nettleham Old School.
Notes about the speaker:
Steffie Shields MBE, BA Hons, Liverpool Hope University, is a professional garden photographer, writer, and historic landscape consultant based in Lincolnshire. A regular gardening contributor to Lincolnshire Life magazine (1997-), a former Cambridge tutor, ICE, Madingley (2007-2016), her illustrated book ‘Moving Heaven and Earth: Capability Brown’s Gift of Landscape’ (Unicorn Press) was a Garden Media Guild Awards finalist for 2016 ‘Inspirational Book of the Year’. A Vice-President of The Gardens Trust, and present chair, Lincolnshire Gardens Trust, Steffie was awarded the M.B.E (2018) for services to conservation and heritage.
