Description

This is the final volume in the series reporting on the Fenland Management Project excavations in the 1990’s. Sites include that at Market Deeping where a remarkable cluster of timbers, Iron Age and Roman pottery was found in a palaeochannel that had become cut off from the main river Welland. Deposition in the channel enabled the study of a long sequence of Iron Age pottery. As with all the Fenland Management Project volumes, there is an environmental focus with the dynamic Fenland landscape influencing the settlement patterns and economic possibilities. Environmental change is a common thread in all of the sites. Evidence of Bronze Age ploughing is present at Dogdyke and Stickford, in both cases preserved under later alluvial cover.
