Katherine Willoughby, Duchess of Suffolk – Lincolnshire’s Greatest Tudor Woman
Willoughby’s extraordinary life was full of tragedy and adventure, in which she mixed at the highest levels of royal society and on several occasions came close to execution. Her life as one of the nation’s leading reformers brought her friendships amongst the greatest thinkers of her day, but also made her dangerous enemies. Fleeing England as a refugee, she ran Lithuania on behalf of the King of Poland. Her lasting legacy was the many Lincolnshire people who went to America in the 1630s.
