Exploring the life of the sultan Saladin - member ticket

Don’t miss this opportunity to discover the mysterious and enigmatic history of the Knights Templar with Dr Nicholas Morton. This is the last of four online, monthly, talks.

Date & Time: Thursday 13th May 2021 at 7pm

Please note that this talk has been postponed to 13th May. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Saladin is one of the most famous rulers in Islamic history, well known even today - over 800 years after his death - in the Muslim world, Western Europe and elsewhere. He was the commander who in 1187 achieved both the reconquest of Jerusalem and almost managed to destroy the Crusader States. He later resisted the enormous armies of the Third Crusade – launched with the intent to regain Jerusalem - led by kings such as Philip II of France and Richard I of England as well as the German Emperor Frederick I. This talk explores Saladin’s life and career, covering his rise to power, the construction of his substantial empire, and his many wars fought against a range of opponents (of whom the crusaders were only one). Moreover it examines his continuing fame, even now in the Twenty-First century.

Price for this talk: £6 for members, £8 for non-members
