Heroic Tales and Dark Deeds from Lincolnshire and Beyond - a series of talks.

Join Adrian Gray for the last in this series of online talks.

When Anne Hutchinson and John Wheelwright from east Lincolnshire got to New England in the 1630s, major trouble broke out that has led Hutchinson at least to go down as one of the great rebels of American history. Sir Henry Vane got embroiled in the controversy before returning to live at Belleau in Lincolnshire where he again linked up with Hutchinson’s relative John Wheelwright, and played a leading role in the Civil War era – later becoming a key influence on the growing calls for religious tolerance. Yet he was controversially beheaded on the orders of Charles II. Hear how the lives of these three interconnected to such spectacular effect in mid-17th Century England and America.

Date: Tuesday 22nd June 2021

Time: 7pm, the talk will last approx. 1 hr and will be followed by 30 minutes Q & A .
