The Clue

Although the Sleaford Leisure Centre is a modern building, this site was the location of the town’s first swimming baths in 1886, to discourage residents from bathing in the unsanitary waters of the River Slea. Outside there is a mosaic, which is one of three celebrating the ‘powers’ associated with the river.

The Answer

The mosaic celebrates ‘Man Power’. At the height of its use, the River and Canal system of Sleaford required a combination of ‘Man Power’, Horse Power’ and ‘Wind Power’ to move people and goods across Lincolnshire and beyond. These mosaics were created by artist Alan Potter
