Pow Cottage, Tattershall

A Lincolnshire Legacy

In early 2021, Heritage Lincolnshire were kindly bequeathed a beautiful mud and stud cottage in Tattershall.  Owned and lovingly restored over many years, Jane Pow and her husband requested that their home become a holiday let for people to come along and enjoy whilst visiting our wonderful county.

In line with Jane’s wishes, Heritage Lincolnshire are currently in the process of sympathetically updating the property to ensure that we can carry out her vision.

We have had a great relationship with Jane in the past, with her regularly opening up her home for Heritage Open Days and serving her homemade elderflower champagne!

On this page, we will keep you updated on the progress of works and when we will be opening the house for people to stay over and enjoy! We will also be finding out more about Jane and her family to share with you so that we will always remember the people behind the building.

If you would like to find out more about leaving something in your will for Heritage Lincolnshire, as Jane has done, please click here or contact htladmin@heritagelincolnshire.org for more information.

Repair works begin in July 2021 to the building:

Repairs to the external walls of the cottage are being completed by Trevor Oliver of Millstone Restoration who got to know Jane Pow and the cottage very well over the years, often doing repair works for Jane directly.
We are continuing to use heritage methods to restore and our team are involved in this at all stages, and even getting their hands dirty themselves!

Take a look at this video created of how we have re-plastered the external walls, using the original materials:

February 2022 – we have heating!

Pow Cottage has never had a heating system before now, and now thanks to Kingsgate Electrical Services we do!

Dan completed the install in February 2022, and we now have radiators in all of the rooms and a heated towel rail in the bathroom, that can be monitored remotely, so when we do open up the cottage, we will be able to make sure it is nice and warm for our guests when they arrive. Lighting has also been updated throughout the cottage to give it a bit more light too!

April 2022

Throughout April, all the windows to the property were given a new lease of life and some of the internal woodwork ready for the limewashing. Thanks to the team at Jericho Joinery for doing such a superb job!

May 2022 – Exterior and Interior Lime Wash

Thanks to Decor Developments, Pow Cottage got a fresh new look as we completed a full exterior and interior limewashing of the cottage.  We think it looks so bright and fresh!

Gardening begins…..

Friday 10th and Saturday 11th June, we welcomed some volunteers to help us make a start on the garden that has gone a little wild over the last 18 months.  A huge thank you to Rob, Taff, Pete and our Sites Project Officer Charlotte, for making such a great start on the project. If you would like to get involved in the ongoing garden clearance and maintenance volunteering, please email charlotte.davey@heritagelincolnshire.org to find out more.

July/August Garden Transformation:

Open Working Days coming soon!

We’re looking for green-fingered volunteers to assist with the ongoing garden maintenance at Pow Cottage. Pow Cottage is a beautiful mud and stud cottage on Tattershall High Street, with cottage-style garden and orchard. The garden has grown a little wild so volunteers have been helping to clear it section by section. We’re looking to recruit both one-off and long-term gardening volunteers to help restore and improve this lovely space. We now have a keen Senior Volunteer working with Project Manager Charlotte and the plan for the garden is to create spaces in the garden that individual volunteers/teams can adopt as their own.

Next Open Day:  5-6 August 2022, 10.30 – 14.30

We are hosting a Working Open Day where we’d love for you to come along and see the garden, and maybe lend a hand with works taking place on the day. Charlotte will be showing volunteers around the garden and the interior of the cottage, and refreshments will be provided.

So if you’re green fingered, and can spare a few hours, or even make a regular commitment, then we’d love to hear from you. We want our volunteers to have ownership of the space, so are open to new ideas from those adopting their own areas.

Email charlotte.davey@heritagelincolnshire.org to get involved.

Carpets have been laid!

On Friday 8th July 2022, we had MG Flooring, a local family based business. We think they look great and have bought a real warmth to the cottage!

Holiday Lets with Heritage Lincolnshire will be announced soon…..watch this space!
