HOD – Educating Isaac – visit the old Tudor grammar school in which Isaac Newton and many others were taught.

9 September 2023 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm

Part of the Lincolnshire HODs Festival 2023

Please note that this event has had to be cancelled due to urgent building works. The bookstall and the Latin lesson are still going ahead and will be held at St Wulfram’s Church, Grantham NG31 6RR.

The Tudor Grammar school was re-founded by Bishop Foxe in 1528. William Cecil, later created Lord Burghley by Queen Elizabeth, and Isaac Newton were educated here as were First World War heroes Albert Ball VC and Joseph Tombs VC. School memorabilia and photographs will be displayed and the many names of old boys carved around the windows will be visible. We will have an explanation of the early school rules and a short Latin lesson at 11am. Grantham Civic Society will have a bookstall of new and used local books.
