HOD – Sails and Stones: the Art of Milling

9 September 2023 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Part of the Lincolnshire HODs Festival 2023

Weather permitting, watch millers at work in the fully restored, 143-year-old, six-sailed Waltham Windmill. There are fantastic views from the top of this iconic building. Local wheat is ground for flour, which is baked into wholemeal loaves, both on sale. Learn about windmills in Waltham since 1666. Free to enter, full of interesting items, the Rural Life Museum / RAF Grimsby exhibition is in a Nissen hut, formerly the dining hall for RAF Grimsby WAAFs during WWII. Reconstructed rooms show how life used to be before microwaves and mobile phones! GCMES train rides available for a small charge.

The site is mostly flat and accessible to all. Limited disabled parking available. Wheelchairs / pushchairs can access the ground floor of the mill. There are steep stairs, with hand rails, to the upper floors of the mill. The museum is ground floor level.
