City of Lincoln Council has secured funding to breathe new life into Lincoln High Street through the High Streets Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) programme. The programme is part of a national project lead by Historic England which aims to transform historic high streets by restoring buildings, making improvements to public areas, and ensuring local people have a real say in their local heritage.
Dominated by the view of the Cathedral, Lincoln’s historic High Street has over 2000 years of history; from roman roads, medieval buildings to the arrival of industry. Lincoln HSHAZ starts at Waterside South across to Wigford Way and ends on the High Street at the junction with Sibthorpe Street/Gaunt Street. Via the HSHAZ, an extensive programme of historic building restorations will strengthen the area’s historic character, make improvements to the built environment, and strengthen connections between the southern High Street and city centre by the improvement of public landscaping and a programme of heritage building restorations.
Join us for a walking tour of Lincoln’s urban history and discover more about the unique and rich history that stretches from Romans to railways.
