Take the first step towards a historic new career
Applications are now being accepted for five new traineeships offered by the Historic Environment Skills (HES) project.
Run by the county council, Lincoln Cathedral and Heritage Lincolnshire, and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the HES project aims to encourage more young people to pursue careers in the traditional built heritage sector.
Among the opportunities currently on offer are:
* Heritage joinery – based with Jericho Joinery, who are currently working on the restoration of Nottingham Castle
* Slate and roofing – based with Messenger BCR, a specialist construction and conservation company working with clients including Historic England, the National Trust and Natural England
* Historic building conservation – Working with a small business called Millstone Restoration, this is a hands-on traineeship with opportunities for working on historic buildings, including churches
Traineeships are also available in heritage plastering and lead roofing.
Lizzie Whittington, Historic Environment Skills project co-ordinator, said: “This is an amazing opportunity to train with talented crafts people, working on a range of challenging projects.
“All the training will be paid for by the project and you’ll receive a tax-free monthly bursary and a budget for equipment and tools.
“So if you have a genuine interest in working in the heritage sector, and are looking to get the traditional and specialist skills needed, make sure you make the most of this great opportunity.
